SPC2009 Decompression

Well, here I am, 24 hours past the SPC2009 ride.  Now I feel like I'm on a long slow decompression ascension (lame scuba reference) to the public launch of SP2010 next year some time. Now that the SP2010 veil is lifted, I'm finally free to talk about some incredible new SP2010 features that are abslutely CLUTCH for scaling SharePoint to sizes we may only have dreamed of before! I have all these ideas floating around for what I want to say.  So I started writing this post and it just plain grew too large.  So I decided to break it up into seperate posts in a SP2010 Scalability...

SP2010 Coming Out Party!

I'll talk about the SharePoint 2009 conference in a sec, but a few have been asking where I been the last couple months?  Well, I've been grinding on a huge solution implementation for a gigantic customer that unfortunately must remain nameless.  It will be the largest SharePoint based document imaging system that I've had the pleasure to work on.  Think 100 to 200 MILLION documents in SharePoint!  Our CERT environment alredy has 15 million.  Cool stuff!  So that's where I've been.  Where am I going?  Well... LAS VEGAS BABY! The time is nearly here for the SharePoint 2010 feature set to be unveiled...

Microsoft Certified Master - SharePoint 2007

So back in March, I blogged on the SharePoint Master (MCM) program. It was an amazing experience. Unfortunately, even though I did pass the grueling qualification lab, I only passed 2 of 3 written tests on the first pass. Well, I just knocked out my retake and the results are in.... PASS! It really has been an interesting experience. There was a lot of pressure to pass on that 2nd attempt. But I made it! I have to thank God for that! I know that it's not always "cool" to talk about

Consider me a Tweeter

Well, I finally took the plunge.  I jumped on the bandwagon.  I finally buckled under the peer pressure.  I am now on Twitter. http://twitter.com/rhouberg I don't yet understand the magic of Twitter, but not unlike how beer was an acquired taste, I'm going to dive in and see if I can plug into Twitter like the rest of the free world has. So we'll see.  I'll give it the college try.  I'll try to tweet at least daily so that everyone with more time on their hands than I have can check out what I'm doing!  tweet...tweet

Come On In... The Water is Fine!

So here it is... The new home for my blog. (For those of you who just navigated over from my old host... THANKS!) First of all... yes, the layout is a bit boring.  I can do better.  I didn't have time to work out the CSS for a unique theme for my blog.  So this is just one of the out-of-the-box themes provided by SubText, the software I'm using to power this blog.  I'll try to work on that in the near future if I get some time (yeah right  :) ). Anyway...  I'm working on some updates to the SharePoint Scalability whitepaper that...

Master Training: Are You Ready?

So I just made it back home after attending the 3-week R2 (Beta) rotation of the Microsoft Certified Masters SharePoint training. I wanted to specifically call out the fact that this was a beta program because I really wanted to commend Microsoft for putting together a very polished experience even though it was "beta". Sure, there were a few minor issues and there is always room for improvement but it is clear that they've worked very hard to get this right.

The Next Level - Microsoft Certified Master

I've been blessed to be part of this white hot technology called SharePoint for the last 5 years. It all started in late 2003 early 2004 when a SharePoint MVP named Darrin Bishop took me under his wing and began to show me how SharePoint would one day RULE THE WORLD of corportate intranets and collaboration portals. He was dead right. I really enjoyed the platform. There was a lot more sizzle to it than the Biztalk work I had been doing and I wanted to be more than just another .NET develope

Sabatacle...

Well, I'm not sure if I ever really gained any "followers" of this blog last year. I figure I posted some decent reference material but probably not frequently enough for anyone to subscribe to the feed. So what the heck have I been doing since my last post in June of 2008? Well, the short answer is that I've been building a house! The contract was placed for the sale of our old house in June of 2008. Since that time, it's been a tornado of events that lead me to today where I type thi

TechEd 2008 Whirlwind - RBS, FAST Search, and Hyper-V

What can I say about this past week! It was a great ride and I'm not even talking about The Mummy at Universal! I spent this last week at TechEd 2008 in Orlando. It was such an amazing event that I don't even know where to begin! So I'll start with the facts. Microsoft's new hypervisor technology "Hyper-V" is set to storm onto the scene. I saw some excellent demos this week. So good in fact, that I'll probably have Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V running on my laptop and/or my desktop

Calm Before the Storm

Well, it's been a few weeks since I finished the SharePoint scalability work. The storage whitepaper I wrote is going over well with customers and the public in general and the big daddy SharePoint Scalability whitepaper will soon be posted on TechNet. Also, I'll be presenting material from the storage whitepaper at the Dallas and Houston SharePoint User Group meetings in May.
